EUSAAP 20th Conference

The European Union Studies Association Asia Pacific (EUSA AP) is inviting papers for the annual conference and postgraduate student workshop. The conference is entitled:

EU’s institutional leadership and the new priorities and challenges for the EU27

    • Thursday, 25th and Friday, 26th June 2020
    • Christchurch, New Zealand

Papers are welcome from a broad multidisciplinary perspective that investigate these questions from both, an European and Asia Pacific perspective. This annual conference also serves as the 20th anniversary celebration of the National Centre for Research on Europe (NCRE) at the University of Canterbury, the host of the conference. To build capacity and sustainability in EU Studies in the Asia Pacific region both academics as well as graduate students are invited to participate. Early career researchers will be able to benefit from networking with more experienced participants, develop important research and presentation skills and bring new and different perspectives to the conference.

Profile:

Dr Danilo Scholz specializes in the history of modern political thought and European intellectual history. He obtained his PhD from the EHESS in 2018, by investigating how insights from ethnological, psychoanalytical and geographical research reshaped concepts and critiques of the state in twentiethcentury postwar French thought. He was awarded the Heinrich Mann Prize 2019 for his essays and other articles about Europe.

Abstract:

The seminar paper examines an intersection between political and intellectual history and the European integration, with a special focus on the distinguished Hegelian French philosopher Alexandre Kojève. It sheds original light on how Kojève as a French official played a key role in creating the European Economic Community (EEC) and in politics among the EEC, the Commonwealth and the British, German and French governments.
